The X Files: Fight the Future, starring David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson - In this season's final episode of the X Files series, the X files were closed and Mulder and Scully (David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson) were told to expect reassignment. (For those of you visiting from another planet, Mulder and Scully are FBI agents and the "X Files" are cases dealing with paranormal activity--and frequently the possibility of alien life forms.)

As the movie opens, Mulder and Scully are in Dallas to investigate a terrorist bomb threat--more typical FBI pursuits. Mulder, of course, follows his own hunches and finds the bomb in the building ADJACENT to the threatened building. What do you want to bet that this is all going to relate to the ever-unfolding conspiracy to prevent the bulk of the population from finding out what a select few know about extraterrestrial life?

I'm a faithful fan of the series, so I don't have any idea whether the movie is accessible to the non-fans out there. For the faithful, it is just as though the usual season-ending cliffhanger and season-opening resolution-of-the-cliffhanger were brought together in one 2-hour block, with more expensive special effects. Fans are accustomed to slow, progressive disclosure over many episodes. It remains to be seen whether average moviegoers (who generally like all loose ends nicely tidied up) will be as accepting.
